For years, many have asked the same question: if Exene Cervenka fell down in the forest without the rest of her old band X, would she make a sound? The Original Sinners answer that question quite nicely: yes, she would make quite a noise indeed. Enlisting Kim Chi and Mat Young, original members of LA's Distillers, as well as Sam Soto and Jason Edge on guitars (clearly it takes two men to fill the shoes of Billy Zoom), Exene makes a well-deserved return to the forefront as the punk diva we all remember from the '80s, howling lungs, sharpened claws and spirit intact. Nothing has been lost. It may not be punk the way we remember it, but the Sinners might be the closest thing to it. --Tjames Madison
