Fresh from an appearance with Abigail Washburn and her Sparrow Quartet at last weekend's epic new San Francisco festival, Outside Lands, Bela Fleck is back in the comfort zone with his band The Flecktones, preparing a winter tour in support of their latest release.

As LiveDaily's Kym Kilgore reports, the new record, titled "Jingle All The Way," is the first holiday album of the band's 20-year history, and is due to hit stores on Sept. 30. According to a press release, "It features everything from banjo-harmonic arrangements of "Christmas Time Is Here" and "River," to a Tuvan-inspired, worldbeat rendition of "What Child Is This/Dyngyldai"'

"We always imagined we would do a holiday album," Fleck said in a statement. "When the Flecktones first got together, we worked out a Christmas medley; it was really fun. People loved it, and we continued to play it every year."

The band is scheduled to start its tour in Mexico City during the second week of November, playing four cities in Mexico before launching their US outing Nov. 15 in Spokane, WA. Just over a month later, the band wraps things up with a series of shows just before Christmas at the legendary Blue Note in New York City.

LiveDaily photographer Tim Mosenfelder attended the band's show at last September's Austin City Limits Festival and took some photos of their performance.
