Travis Barker blogs from hospital bed
Former Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker , who last month was severely burned in a plane crash that took the lives of four people, has written about the incident and his recovery in a recent blog entry.
In the note, which is posted at Barker's MySpace page, Barker thanks everyone who has helped him "deal with the current situation," and pays tribute to his late assistant, Chris Barker, and late bodyguard, Charles Still, both of whom were killed in the crash.
"First and foremost, Chris and Che were my friends," Barker wrote. "I would give up anything to have them here with us today, healthy and happy. To call them my employees does them such a disservice, as they were so much more than that. Chris was my best friend before anything else, and I can never put into words how much he will be missed. Che was an amazing person as well, and I was honored to have him in my life.
"Like the doctors said from the beginning, it's been a slow recovery process," he continued. "I am coming up on the 7th of my surgeries Monday. Today I finally was able to move all my fingers on my right hand. Every step seems huge at this point, and I'm doing EVERYTHING I can possibly do to get back to my kids."
Barker said he received a visit from former Blink-182 bandmate Mark Hoppus and business partner/hip-hop mogul Jermaine Dupri, among others, as well as from Goldstein.
"I got to see AM the other day. Seeing him after he was discharged was an inspiration. I saw just how awesome the doctors' work here is, and got to see how well he is doing. I am so happy to see him doing well, and we are both so lucky and grateful that we are alive today."
As previously reported, Barker and Goldstein were the only survivors when the jet on which they were traveling crashed during take off from a South Carolina airport. The two suffered second- and third-degree burns, with Barker's injuries on his torso and lower body, and Goldstein's on his arm and head, according to published reports.
The plane's pilot and co-pilot, who also died in the crash, are believed to have attempted to abort the take-off after hearing a noise that sounded like a blown tire.
