Shakira has teamed with Verizon Wireless to offer fans a technological first during her upcoming "Oral Fixation" tour.
The Latin singer, who announced plans for a 23-city outing earlier this week, plans to send fans with Verizon Wireless phones a "multimedia personal video invitation customized to each city she goes to, inviting her fans to come hear her play in their local arena," according to a press release. Fans will then have the option to text or click through to purchase or win tickets to the show.
Some concertgoers will receive a "multimedia message barcode ticket" sent to their Verizon Wireless phone, which can then be scanned at the venue to gain access to the show.
Brooklyn rapper Gravy is in stable condition after being shot outside of New York City hip-hop radio station Hot 97 on Wednesday (4/26), according to Warner Bros. Records.
The label, in a press release, said that the 28-year-old MC--whose real name is Jamal Woolard--was hit by a single bullet after arriving outside of the station at around 9:30 p.m. for an interview. Rather than seeking treatment, Woolard apparently forged ahead with the interview, after which police who found him wounded and limping had him transported to St. Vincent's Hospital, where he was treated for a single gunshot wound.
"Gravy went to do an interview with [Hot 97 DJ] Funkmaster Flex and became the victim of a violent crime," a Warner Bros. Records spokesperson said in a statement. "He did not intend to bring adverse publicity to Hot 97, who have supported him and his records. After being shot, he sat for a two-hour interview rather than go to the hospital. We are relieved that he is OK and that his wounds were not more serious."
Hot 97's offices have have been the site of three shooting incidents in the past few years, including Wednesday's incident; a 2001 incident involving members of Lil' Kim and Capone-N-Noreaga's crews; and a February 2005 incident during which a member of The Game's crew was shot minutes after 50 Cent announced on the air that he was cutting ties with The Game.
As a result of the shootings, the building's landlord reportedly initiated eviction proceedings against the station this week.
VH1 has announced a May 5 air date for the third episode of its "Decades Rock Live" concert series, which honors rock vets Heart (sisters Ann & Nancy Wilson). The prerecorded event, which took place last month, features appearances from the surviving members of Alice in Chains, Dave Navarro, Carrie Underwood, Rufus Wainwright and Gretchen Wilson.
Brian Littrell of Backstreet Boys will usher in the release of his debut solo album, "Welcome Home," with a May 2 autograph signing at the Lifeway Christian Store at Buford, GA's Mall of Georgia.
