Tom Petty maps out second leg of US tour
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers have rolled out another leg of their 2006 summer tour, as expected, with shows again featuring guest appearances by Trey Anastasio , as well as several dates with The Allman Brothers Band .
The new leg picks up with a July 29 show in Portland, OR, and runs through mid-August. A third and final leg, consisting of shows in September and October, will be announced soon, according to the tour's organizers.
Petty and the Heartbreakers are set to play Friday (5/12) in Portsmouth, VA, as part of the tour's continuing first leg, with Anastasio as the current guest performer. Pearl Jam will join the tour as co-headliners for a six-night block starting in late June.
This is the second straight year that Petty has launched a major tour without new product to promote, although this should change soon when he releases his forthcoming third solo album, "Highway Companion."
Petty is "putting the finishing touches" on the album, according to a press release. Jeff Lynne is producing the disc, with Petty and Heartbreaker Mike Campbell assisting.
