More Nickel Creek tour dates trickle in
Bluegrass/folk trio Nickel Creek has added a number of new stops to its in-progress road trip as it continues to pound the pavement behind last year's Grammy-nominated album "Why Should the Fire Die?"
Since last check, the group has filled many of the gaps in its schedule, with the bulk of the new additions concentrated in June. So far, the run is still slated to wind down in mid-August. Details are included below.
"Why Should the Fire Die?" which surfaced last August, was produced by Eric Valentine (Smash Mouth, Third Eye Blind) and Tony Berg (X, Squeeze). Though digital recording studios have become norm for many musicians, Nickel Creek stuck with analog gear and traditional bluegrass instrumentation: mandolin, guitar, violin and bass.
The disc picked up a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Folk Album, and the cut "Scotch and Chocolate" received a nomination for Best Country Instrumental, but the group didn't post wins in either category.
In 2003, Nickel Creek scored a Best Contemporary Folk Album Grammy for its sophomore set, "This Side."
