Ray Davies toys with 'Other People's Lives'

Kinks frontman Ray Davies will mount a second round of North American tour dates this summer as he continues to back his first proper solo album, "Other People's Lives."

The singer--who, back in March, tackled a nine-city trek that focused on the Northeast--will largely concentrate on the West this time around with a run that kicks off July 1 in Detroit and is scheduled to make stops in a dozen US cities and one Canadian city by July 22. Details are included below.

The tour is slated to wrap up in Austin, TX, where Davies will also be taping an hour-long performance for an upcoming episode of "Austin City Limits." An air date hasn't been announced.

In February, Davies offered up "Other People's Lives." Though he has released several non-Kinks works over the years, the new disc is his first full-fledged solo set. Recorded at London's Konk Studios, the album features 13 tracks that he wrote, produced and arranged.

Davies' previous non-Kinks output includes the 1985 film "Return to Waterloo," which he wrote and directed, as well as the film's soundtrack, on which he took a solo credit; 1998's "Storyteller," a live recording of a solo-acoustic performance; and last year's "Thanksgiving Day," a five-song EP.

V2 Records, Davies' label, plans to send the "Other People's Lives" track "Over My Head" to radio stations to coincide with the upcoming tour, according to a press release.

A track-by-track commentary for "Other People's Lives" is posted at Davies' website.
