Keith Richards returns home, Stones tour will resume
Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards is back at home in the US after an extended stay in New Zealand to recover from a head injury.
According to a statement posted Monday (5/22) on the Stones' official website, Richards is "feeling great, happy to be home and looking forward to getting back on the road with The Rolling Stones ."
The statemen added that a revised itinerary for the Stones' upcoming tour dates will be announced "shortly."
Richards was transferred to a hospital in New Zealand after he suffered what Stones publicist Fran Curtis called "a mild concussion" in an April 27 fall while vacationing in Fiji, about 1,300 miles away. Various outlets have reported that the concussion was the result of a fall from a palm tree, a fall from a personal watercraft, or both.
After reportedly suffering from continued headaches, Richards underwent surgery earlier this month to relieve pressure in his skull, a procedure that Curtis said was successful. The guitarist did not suffer brain damage, according to the publicist.
The Stones' camp recently announced that, due to Richards' injury, the European leg of the group's "A Bigger Bang" tour will be delayed until June. It was originally scheduled to open later this month.
