Cracker backs upcoming 'Greenland' with tour
With a recently released "new" version of its greatest hits album and a new studio album, "Greenland," set for a June unveiling, Cracker will set out on a long tour this summer to shore up its vast musical empire.
The band will play a few dates with singer/guitarist David Lowery's other ongoing concern, Camper Van Beethoven , including a June 9 double-billed show in Tulsa, OK, and twins slots at the Wakarusa Festival the following night in Lawrence, KS.
The two bands won't meet up again until Sept. 8 in Pioneertown, CA, when they'll stage their second annual "campout," this time featuring guest performers including Neko Case and John Doe.
Cracker's long headlining stretch begins June 11 in St. Louis, and runs into September, with concerts in nearly every part of the country in between.
"Greenland," Cracker's seventh studio album, and first since 2003's "Countrysides," is due in stores June 6 on the Cooking Vinyl label.
"This album is the most personal and is the most directly about my life, my own experiences, and those around me,” Lowery said in a press release. “I found myself asking whether I wanted to continue to be a musician and keep writing songs. Those questions were answered by writing this record."
The new album follows the February release of "Greatest Hits Redux," which Cracker recorded in response to its former label, Virgin, issuing its own Cracker best-of, "Get On With It: The Best of Cracker" in 2006. Both albums were released the same day and feature a similar tracklisting, with the big difference being that Cracker re-recorded all their old material for "Redux."
The band was reportedly unhappy that Virgin would not let them participate in the "Get On With It" release.
