Smashing Pumpkins To Play Two Charity Shows In Chicago
Smashing Pumpkins will warm up for next year's world tour with a pair of club dates on Dec. 20 and 21 in Chicago, the city that spawned the band. Ticket-holders who bring two cans of food to a performance will receive a signed Christmas gift from the band, according to chicago.citysearch.com.
A spokesperson for Cabaret Metro, the 1,100-capacity venue hosting the two charity performances, said tickets sold out today (12/10) in less than 15 minutes.
The shows are expected to be the first to feature the band's new bass player, former Hole member Melissa Auf Der Maur. Founding bassist D'Arcy Wretzky left the band earlier this year.
The fifth Smashing Pumpkins album, ''MACHINA/the machines of God,'' (Virgin) is scheduled for release on Feb. 28., but the band will launch a European tour in Sweden on Jan. 7. No North American tour dates have been confirmed, but the world tour is expected to continue for 18 months.
A radio track from the album, ''Everlasting Gaze,'' was released to stations this week and the album's first single, ''Stand Inside Your Love'', will be released on December 21st.
