Cheap Trick launches tour as album hits stores
With their new album due to hit the shelves next Tuesday (6/6), veteran rockers Cheap Trick hit the road tonight (6/2) for a run on the summer festival circuit.
The group's loose-knit itinerary currently features about a dozen US shows and a pair of Canadian concerts, dates for which are scattered through early September. Details are included below.
Following tonight's performance in St. Petersburg, FL, the group will take a short break before headlining across the pond later this month to play a pair of UK dates with fellow rock vets Def Leppard. Details about those gigs are posted at Cheap Trick's website.
On Tuesday (6/6), Cheap Trick offers up "Rockford," which follows 2003's "Special One." The group is issuing the new set via its own Cheap Trick Unlimited/Big3 Records label.
To help launch the disc, the group will make a release-day appearance at a Chicago-area Best Buy (900 East Golf Road in Schaumburg at 6 p.m.), and a Wednesday (6/7) appearance at a Milwaukee-area Wal-Mart (4500 South 108th Street in Greenfield at 6 p.m.), according to a press release.
Other promotional appearances include a June 29 guest spot on "Late Night With Conan O'Brien," during which the group plans to perform its new single, "Perfect Stranger," as well as a trio of radio-show appearances: "The Mancow Show" on June 5, "Rockline" on June 7 and "The Howard Stern Show" on June 26.
While on Conan O'Brien's show, the group will perform "Perfect Stranger," the lead-off single from "Rockford." The track, which Linda Perry produced and co-wrote with the band, is currently available exclusively via iTunes.
Cheap Trick--frontman Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson and drummer Bun E. Carlos--formed in the early '70s and released its self-titled debut album in 1977. The band's most commercially successful release is 1979's "Live at Budokan," which spawned the hit "I Want You to Want Me."
