AFI backs 'Decemberunderground' with roadwork
Punk revivalists AFI have mapped out a two-month summer tour in support of their most recent release, "Decemberunderground," which hit stores June 6.
The Ukiah, CA, band will start off close to home, with a slot at Saturday's BFD 2006 outdoor festival in Mountain View, CA. The one-day event--an annual endeavor by San Francisco radio station Live 105--also features The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and others.
After the BFD appearance, AFI's headlining tour will commence with a June 13 show in Montreal. The band will also make several appearance during this year's Van's Warped Tour, beginning with the June 30 show in Houston.
Fellow hardcore acts Nightmare of You and Dillinger Escape Plan will offer opening support at most stops during the outing, excepting the Warped dates.
"Decemberunderground" is the AFI's seventh studio album, dating back to its 1995 debut, "Answer That & Stay Fashionable." The followup to 2003's "Sing the Sorrow"--the band's first major-label release--finds the group working with a number of guest backing vocalists, including Tiger Army's Nick 13, Dan Smith from Day of Contempt, Bleeding Through's Brandon Schieppati, Eighteen Visions' Keith Barney, and Ronan Harris from VNV Nation, among others.
"Our fans always come with us every step of the way," said vocalist Davey Havok in the band's online bio. "I think they recognize honesty in our music, that this is the only way we can express ourselves, to make music that we love. Nothing else. That's what allowed us to make the jump way back when and what continues to keep us going now."
