New Bob Dylan album due in August

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Bob Dylan will issue "Modern Times," his 44th album and first new set in five years, on Aug. 29.

According to Columbia Records, the album features 10 new Dylan originals he recorded this winter with his touring band--guitarists Stu Kimball and Denny Freeman, multi-instrumentalist Donnie Herron, bassist Tony Garnier and drummer George Recile. Dylan sang and played keyboards, guitars, and harmonica.

The "Modern Times" tracklisting includes "Thunder on the Mountain," "Spirit on the Water," "Workingman's Blues" and "When The Deal Goes Down."

"We're approaching Modern Times as the third release in an outstanding trilogy of recorded works--along with [1997's] 'Time Out Of Mind' and [2001's] 'Love and Theft,'" Columbia Chairman Steve Barnett said in a press release. "This is a staggering record by any standards, and is a major priority for our company, worldwide."

Though "Modern Times" will mark Dylan's first new album since "Love and Theft," the legendary artist has kept busy by touring extensively. His profile has been especially high in recent years, thanks to the 2004 release of the first volume of his memoirs, "Chronicles," as well as last year's Martin Scorsese-directed film "No Direction Home," which documented Dylan's early career.

Dylan launched a weekly XM Satellite Radio show, dubbed "Theme Time Radio Hour," in May.
