Reverend Horton Heat lays out summer revival

Psychobilly pioneer Reverend Horton Heat and his band are set for an extensive slate of summer/fall shows as the band continues to bridge its current gap between studio albums.

The Rev--a.k.a. Jim Heath--and his longtime associates, stand-up bassist Jimbo Wallace and drummer Scott Churilla--will set out on the road with a June 30 concert in Tempe, AZ, the first of more than 45 dates on the band's calendar.

Danish psychobilly sextet Horrorpops--whose most recent album was 2005's "Bring It On!"--will open most of the outing's dates, with additional support on selected dates coming from Los Angeles "punkabilly" act Throw Rag, whose last studio release was 2005's "13 Ft. and Rising."

The Reverend and his crew released their first-ever holiday release, the Christmas-themed "We Three Kings," last October, a collection of 12 well-known holiday favorites, including such Christmas-season classics as "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town," "Run Rudolph Run," "Silver Bells" and "Pretty Paper." The disc also includes one original composition, "Santa on the Roof."

The band's last non-holiday-flavored release was 2004's "Revival," recorded live to four-track in a Dallas studio in a matter of days, reflecting the band's notoriously overcharged live work ethic.

"We’re lucky we have a live act that can really ... we're really almost impossible to blow us off the stage," Heath said in a press release following the appearance of "We Three Kings."

"Great, great bands out there, who are players or are bands and acts that I just love and am just ga-ga over I love them so much, even those bands, they might edge us out a little bit, but there’s really nobody who can blow us off a stage. I guess we’re just lucky in that respect."
