Briefly: A.F.I., Dixie Chicks, Raul Malo, Chris Smither

Rockers A.F.I. notch the first No. 1 album of their career with their new set "Decemberunderground," which sold about 182,000 copies during its first week in stores.

The showing is enough to supplant the Dixie Chicks ' "Taking the Long Way" from its two-week residency at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 album chart. It sold about 175,000 copies, and lands at No. 2, according to Billboard.

Yung Joc claims the No. 3 slot during the debut week of his new set, "New Joc City," while Ice Cube's "Laugh Now, Cry Later" checks in at No. 4.

The "High School Musical" soundtrack falls from No. 2 to No. 5 this week.

Veteran singer/songwriter/guitarist Chris Smither --well known for penning tracks for the likes of Bonnie Raitt, Diana Krall and Emmylou Harris, as well as a solo recording career that dates back to 1970--will release his 12th album on Sept. 19.

The set, dubbed "Leave the Light On," was produced by David Goodrich, and features session musicians Mike Piehl (drums), Lou Ulrich (bass) and Anita Suhanin (vocals). Tim O'Brien and roots band Olabelle also contributed.
