Briefly: Tom Petty, Jay-Z, Lou Reed, Blues & Brews
The first single from Tom Petty 's forthcoming album, "Highway Companion," is titled "Saving Grace."
The track, which will be released as a digital download on Independence Day, is now streaming at Petty's website.
As previously reported, Petty's new album, his first since 1994's "Wildflowers," is set for release on July 25.
Rapper Jay-Z , who now heads up Def Jam Records, has launched a boycott of Cristal champagne.
The move came after The Economist magazine published a story in which the managing director of Louis Roederer, the company that owns the champagne brand, took what Jay-Z saw as a swipe at the hip-hop community.
Fredereick Rouzaud was quoted as saying that his company viewed Cristal's position as a hip-hop status symbol with "curiosity and serenity." When asked if its association with hip-hop could be a negative, Rouzaud reportedly said, "That's a good question, but what can we do? We can't forbid people from buying it. I'm sure Dom Perignon or Krug would be delighted to have their business."
Jay-Z, who owns the 40/40 Clubs in Manhattan and Atlantic City, and plans to open five new venues, said his nightclubs will pull Cristal from its bars and replace it with Krug and Dom Perignon.
"It has come to my attention that the managing director of Cristal, Frederic Rouzaud, views the 'hip-hop' culture as 'unwelcome attention,'" Jay-Z said in a statement issued Wednesday (6/15). "I view his comments as racist and will no longer support any of his products through any of my various brands including The 40/40 Club nor in my personal life."
Lou Reed , Bobby Rush , Shannon Curfman , Watermelon Slim, Nick Moss & The Flip Tops, Howard Tate and Joe Louis Walker are among the new additions to this year's Telluride Blues & Brews Festival lineup in Colorado.
Reed performs on Sept. 15, opening day of the three-day event. Previously announced acts include John Mayer, Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers and Tab Benoit.
