Modest Mouse cancels August shows

Modest Mouse has canceled its planned August shows in order to complete work on its new album, the band has announced.

The Seattle alt-rockers had been scheduled to play four dates in August, starting with an Aug. 6 concert in Santa Barbara, CA. Refunds for the canceled show will be made available to ticket holders at the place of purchase, according to the group's website.

The band is currently working on its next album in a Mississippi studio with producer Dennis Herring (Good News for People Who Love Bad News) behind the controls.

Modest Mouse toured extensively following its commercial breakthrough in the wake of "Good News," spending much of 2004 and 2005 on the road.

Released in April of 2004, "Good News" has sold more than 1.3 million copies, according to Epic Records. The set followed 2000's critically hailed "The Moon & Antarctica."
