Briefly: Kenny Chesney, Van Halen, Kylie Minogue, Sandi Thom, KCRW's World Festival
Eddie and Alex Van Halen made a surprise appearance during Kenny Chesney's June 17 performance at the Home Depot Center in Carson, CA.
During the show, the two brothers backed Chesney on the Van Halen original "Jump" and The Kinks' "You Really Got Me," a cover version of which appears on VH's 1978 self-titled debut.
It's the first time the Van Halen brothers have been seen on stage together since Van Halen's 2004 tour ended.
Australian pop star Kylie Minogue, who canceled a planned tour of her home country in May 2005 after she was diagnosed with breast cancer, will resume that outing in November.
According to promoter Frontier Touring Company, the rescheduled dates begin Nov. 11 in Sydney. More information is posted at the promoter's website.
"Smile ... It Confuses People," the debut album from Scottish singer/songwriter Sandi Thom , will be issued by in the US by Columbia Records on Sept. 12. The album entered the UK album charts at No. 1 earlier this month.
Influential Los Angeles-area public radio station KCRW continues its World Festival at the Hollywood Bowl this summer.
The event opens Sunday (6/25) with " Sergio Mendes ' 40th Anniversary of Brasil '66: A Timeless Celebration," featuring Mendes with guests the Maogani Quartet and Marcelo D2, among others.
The festival continues July 16 with "Bollywood Night," featuring composer Ar Rahman and opening act Musafir. The Flaming Lips and Thievery Corporation perform July 23, and the "Bob Marley: Roots, Rock, Reggae Festival 2006" featuring Ziggy Marley is scheduled for Aug. 17.
Rounding out the slate is an Aug. 27 show featuring electronica acts Gotan Project, Zero 7 and Jose Gonzalez, and a Sept. 10 show featuring Willie Nelson with Neko Case and Ryan Adams.
