M. Ward [ tickets ] will fill almost his entire September this year with performing dates, as the California-based singer/songwriter backs his upcoming album "Post-War."

Ward, whose initial letter expands to "Matt," was featured in the San Luis Obispo, CA, band Rodriguez before launching his solo career in 2001 with his debut LP, "End of Amnesia." The singer/guitarist is a frequent collaborator with a number of rising acts, including My Morning Jacket and Bright Eyes, with whom he toured in 2004.

Ward's late-fall tour kicks off Sept. 1 in Seattle, the first of 24 dates on a rambling trek across North America that ends Sept. 30 in Portland, OR.

"Post-War," Ward's fourth studio album and third for the Merge label, is due in stores Aug. 22. The disc was recorded in producer/musician Mike Coykendall's attic in Portland, and mixed by Mike Mogis in Lincoln, NE. Several guest performers appear on the disc, including singer/songwriters Neko Case and Jim James, as well as Coykendall and Mogis.

In addition to his own recording work, Ward appears as a guest guitarist on My Morning Jacket's latest album, "Z," and also the debut album from Giant Sand frontman Howe Gelb's latest side project, "Arizona Amp and Alternator," which is due for a September release.
