Tommy Lee's Supernova readies for 'Rock Star' search
After successfully staffing INXS with new frontman J.D. Fortune, reality-TV producer Mark Burnett's "Rock Star" series is returning to CBS-TV to find a singer for Supernova, a new group that includes Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee .
Lee, along with former Guns N' Roses guitarist Gilby Clarke , former Metallica Bassist Jason Newsted and the soon-to-be-crowned singer, is expected to issue Supernova's debut album via Epic Records this fall. Butch Walker (Avril Lavigne, Pink) will produce the set.
"Supernova has been in the studio with Butch Walker every day creating an amazing new sound for their debut album," Burnett said in a press release. "With the power of the television show behind them, helping to find the greatest unsigned talent on the planet to front their band, the sky is the limit for this album's success."
According to a press release, 15 finalists will be competing for the lead-singer opening. They were selected after a search that attracted 25,000 entrants in 22 cities and six continents.
The 13-week series, which will air twice a week, premieres July 5. The winner--who, besides singing on Supernova's album, will also join the group on a world tour--will be selected during a two-hour finale set for Sept. 27.
