Lil' Kim released from prison

Rapper Lil' Kim was released Monday morning (7/3) from a federal detention center in Philadelphia, 10 months after she was imprisoned on perjury charges.

According to Philadelphia news reports, dozens of fans cheered the rapper as she walked out of the jail at 6 a.m. and hopped into a waiting, silver Rolls Royce. The car then stopped at a nearby parking lot so that Lil' Kim could acknowledge her supporters.

"I am thrilled to be coming home," Lil' Kim said prior to her release, in a statement issued by her publicist. "I thank all my fans for all their letters, as well as my family and friends for all their support throughout the past 19 months."

The rapper, whose real name is Kimberly Jones, was convicted in March 2005 of lying to cover up for two friends who were involved in a 2001 shooting outside of a New York City radio station.

She was sentenced to serve a year and a day in prison, but was given an early release due to good behavior. She still faces 30 days of house arrest and three years of probation.
