Jonny Lang readies new album, adds dates

Singer/guitarist Jonny Lang has nailed down a September release date for his new album, "Turn Around," and has lined up more shows for a fall tour that will support the set.

Scheduled to hit stores Sept. 19, "Turn Around" is Lang's first new studio set since his appropriately titled 2003 collection, "Long Time Coming," which surfaced five years after its predecessor, 1998's "Wander This World." The new disc is described in a press release as "thoroughly spiritual and a personal expression of [Lang's] faith," and will be marketed to both mainstream and Christian audiences.

Lang co-wrote the 14 songs on "Turn Around" with collaborators that included Grammy winners Drew Ramsey and Shannon Sanders, as well as five-time Grammy winner Steven Curtis Chapman, who is the most awarded artist in the history of the Gospel Music Association.

"I'm very honored to have had the privilege of writing with Jonny for this record and our friendship has shown me that he's a man that's passionate about his faith as a Christian and is committed to reflecting that in his music," Chapman said in a statement.

"Turn Around" includes guest appearances by singer Michael McDonald, who teams with Lang on the duets "Thankful" and "One Person at a Time"; musicians Sam Bush (mandolin) and Buddy Miller (guitar) on "On That Great Day"; and Nickel Creek violinist Sara Watkins, who turns up on "Only a Man," a cut on which Lang shares vocals with his wife, Haylie.

Later this month, Lang is scheduled to return to the road for a string of summer shows that run through early September, and will cap that same month by opening a pair of shows for the Steve Miller Band. He'll then launch a fall headlining tour in early October, for which dates are stacked up through mid-November. Details are shown below.
