Social Distortion takes on more touring

Southern California punk icons Social Distortion are once again on the road, this time tackling a round of dates in the West leading up to next month's San Diego Street Scene festival.

The group kicked off the outing Tuesday night (7/11) in Spokane, WA, and is scheduled to hit about 10 cities over the next few weeks. Nine Black Alps and Supersuckers will also be on the bill in many cities; details are below.

Social Distortion co-founder/frontman/guitarist Mike Ness broke his wrist earlier this year, but the band continued to tour with fill-in guitarists Ron Emory (T.S.O.L) and Bryan Small (The Hangmen).

Social Distortion's latest album is 2004's "Sex, Love and Rock'n'Roll." The set is the group's first album of new material since 1996's "White Light, White Heat, White Trash," and is also its first recording without guitarist Dennis Danell, who died of a brain aneurysm in 2000. Taking over for Danell is Jonny Wickersham.

Also new to the lineup since "White Light, White Heat, White Trash" surfaced is drummer Charlie Quintana, who replaced Chuck Biscuits in 2000.

Bassist John Maurer, who was with Social Distortion for 20 years, recorded "Sex, Love and Rock'n'Roll" with the group, but has since bowed out. Bassist Brent Harding, who toured with Ness during the singer's 1999 solo outing, rounds out the lineup.
