Briefly: Prince, Johnny Cash, Nelly Furtado, Jesse McCartney
Prince has shuttered his NPG Music Club, at least for now.
"In its current form, there is a feeling that the NPGMC has gone as far as it can go," said a statement issued to members. "Has the time come to once again make a leap of faith and begin anew? These are questions we in the NPG need to answer. In doing so, we have decided to put the club on hiatus until further notice."
The club, which launched in 2001, gave its members early access to new Prince music, as well the ability to hear otherwise unreleased music. Other perks included access to prime concert tickets and passes to after-parties.
"American V: A Hundred Highways," the latest posthumous album from country great Johnny Cash , claims the No. 1 spot on this week's Billboard 200, marking his first No. 1 album since 1969's "Johnny Cash at San Quentin."
The set sold just 88,000 copies during its first week in stores, however. That's the fewest copies sold by a No. 1 debut since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking album sales in 1991, according to Billboard.
Nelly Furtado 's "Loose" climbs one notch to claim the chart's No. 2 slot, while India.Arie 's "Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship" falls from No. 1 to No. 3.
The Dixie Chicks hold steady at No. 4, while Gnarls Barkley's "St. Elsewhere" rounds out the Top 5.
Pop singer/actor Jesse McCartney is set to release his sophomore album, "Right Where You Want Me," on Sept. 19. McCartney co-wrote all of the songs that appear on the album, according to Hollywood Records.
The set follows his platinum-certified debut album, "Beautiful Soul."
