Stars To Salute Elton John At MusiCares Event

February 2, 2000 02:39 PM
Elton John , who has been named MusiCares Person of the Year, will be honored by bevy of stars at a Los Angeles dinner and silent auction on Feb. 21, two days before he is scheduled to receive a Grammy Legend Award. Phil Collins , Sting , Lulu , Melissa Etheridge , Mary J. Blige, Diana Krall, Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt, Gloria Estefan, Moby, Natalie Cole, Sheryl Crow, and Tony Bennett are among the artists expected to attend the black tie, invitation-only event in Los Angeles.

Many of the artists will sing reworked versions of John classics, and an all-star finale is expected. Proceeds from the dinner and auction will go to a MusiCares program that provides medical and financial assistance to musicians.

The MusiCares Foundation was established in 1989 by the Recording Academy to address the health and welfare issues of the music community. The annual Person of the Year dinner--which honors a person who has made substantial contributions both to music and to humanitarian and philanthropic efforts--is the group's largest annual fund-raiser.
