Alan Jackson tackles more dates, new album
Country singer Alan Jackson is currently taking a few weeks off from the road, but he'll be boarding the tour bus again in August.
Jackson's itinerary currently includes more than a dozen dates scattered through the end of the year. Among several recently announced shows is a Sept. 19 headlining appearance at the 19th Annual Cystic Fibrosis Benefit Concert at Baltimore's 1st Mariner Arena. Tickets for the event go on sale Saturday (7/22).
Word of Jackson's growing tour schedule comes as his latest single, "Like Red on a Rose," storms country radio. The track is from his forthcoming album, an as-yet untitled set produced by Alison Krauss that's due in stores in September.
The new album will be Jackson's second this year. He has been on the road on and off since the February release of "Precious Memories," a collection of gospel classics that topped the country and Christian charts. Jackson recorded "Precious Memories" as a Christmas gift for his mother.
A "Precious Memories" special--which included interviews with Jackson and his family, as well as footage taped live during a sold-out concert at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium--aired earlier this year on country-music cable channel GAC. The special is now available on DVD exclusively at Target stores.
According to his label, Arista Nashville, Jackson has recorded 15 albums since 1989. In that period, he's logged record sales of more than 44 million, and topped the country singles chart 31 times.
