John Medeski, Billy Martin and Chris Wood--a.k.a. Medeski Martin & Wood [ tickets ]--have once again teamed with jazz guitarist John Scofield [ tickets ] to create a forthcoming album that the group will back during a round of November and December tour dates.

The quartet has rolled out a half-dozen mid-November stops that focus on the Northeast, followed by seven early December shows throughout the Midwest. Details are included below.

Titled "Out Louder," the new disc is scheduled to hit stores Sept. 26, and will be the inaugural release for MMW's own Indirecto Records label. MMW first recorded with Scofield on his 1998 album, "A Go Go."

"A Go Go was John [Scofield]'s record and we were essentially sidemen," Wood said in a statement, "where 'Out Louder' musically comes from all of us. We've always hit it off as a foursome, and I wanted to see what would happen if we did something that was a true collaboration, where everyone could play completely free."

"Maybe 60% was improvising and writing together," Martin added. "We have a typical MMW style which is going into the studio without knowing what we are going to do. We just play together and something will come out of it. We tried a lot of different ideas with John, but the best things seemed to come out of improvisation."

The foursome recorded "Out Louder" in under a week at Shacklyn, MMW's downtown Brooklyn studio.
