Bruce Hornsby to tour behind box set

Veteran singer/songwriter Bruce Hornsby is gearing up for a late-summer tour that backs his recently released career retrospective, "Intersections 1985-2005."

So far, Hornsby has staked out stops in a dozen cities, beginning with an Aug. 9 performance in Atlanta. Subsequent shows are scattered through mid-September. Details are included below.

The outing follows the July 25 release of "Intersections," a five-disc box set that marks the 20th anniversary of Hornsby's breakthrough debut, "The Way It Is." The box set comprises four audio discs that house 53 tracks, 26 of which are previously unreleased on CD, and one DVD, which features 23 video clips, 21 of which are previously unreleased on DVD, according to a press release.

The collection is a mix of original album tracks and live performances of songs that were culled from every one of his studio albums, the most recent of which is 2004's "Halcyon Days."

Guests featured on the set include The Grateful Dead, Branford Marsalis, Ornette Coleman, Pat Metheny and Shawn Colvin.

Hornsby and his band, The Range, rose to fame in the mid-'80s thanks to their work on "The Way It Is." The triple-platinum set spawned three Top 20 hits, including the No. 1 title track, and earned the group the Grammy award for Best New Artist.

The nine albums Hornsby has released to date have sold a combined total of more than 10 million copies worldwide, according to Columbia.
