Live tacks on early fall shows
Now nearing the end of their summer tour in support of their recently released album, "Songs from Black Mountain," veteran alt-rockers Live have penciled in some early fall concerts.
The group, which wraps up the summer outing Saturday (8/12) in St. Louis, will step back on stage in late September for a handful of stops in Texas, California and Arizona that stretch into early October. The itinerary included below.
After wrapping up the US trek, the band heads Down Under for a fall run through Australia and South Africa, details about which are posted at the group's website.
Released in April, "Songs from Black Mountain" is Live's first new studio release since 2003's "Birds of Pray," and is also the band's inaugural album for Epic Records, with whom the group signed after parting with its longtime label, Geffen. The group's final Geffen release is the 2004 compilation "Awake: The Best of Live."
The new album's title refers to an area near frontman Ed Kowalczyk's home.
"Black Mountain is a place near my house in California where the oak trees are so thick that it's dark there all the time," the singer said in a press release. "It has this mystical aura that reminds me of what it feels like to write a song. You're traveling down a path without knowing where you're going, but guided by something unknowable the pushes you along. There's no linear meaning to this song. It's about using melody to bring people to a place that is beautiful and open to individual interpretation."
Live recorded all 12 cuts on "Songs from Black Mountain" during a three-week stretch last May with producer Jim Wirt (Incubus, Hoobastank). The set features lead-off single "The River" and follow-up cut "Mystery," which the group performed on the recently concluded fifth season of Fox-TV's "American Idol" talent competition. During the performance, the band teamed with contestant and Live fan Chris Daughtry.
