British singer/songwriter Richard Thompson [ tickets ] will launch another solo tour in October, as the tireless performer continues to back his most recent studio release, 2005's "Front Parlour Ballads."

The singer is also supporting February's release of "RT - The Life and Music of Richard Thompson," a five-disc box set that provides yet another overview of Thompson's long performing career.

Thompson will kick off his fall tour Oct. 23 in Athens, GA, after polishing off a scattered schedule of festival appearances in August and September. Next up for the singer is a slot at the Aug. 20 Irish Fest in Milwaukee, WI.

The tour will run into December and consist of standard Thompson solo sets, unlike the "1000 Years of Popular Music" dates he showcased back in May.

The piece, which literally attempts to provide an abbreviated overview of the last thousand years of popular music, was captured on a 2003 CD of the same name, and a DVD that saw an April release. Footage for the DVD was shot at Thompson's February San Francisco appearance.

"Front Parlour Ballads," which hit stores last August, is Thompson's first solo-acoustic effort since 1981's "Strict Tempo!" It follows 2003's "The Old Kit Bag," recorded with a full band.
