Super Bowl Performers To Include Madonna, Tina Turner, Phil Collins
The talent lineup for Super Bowl XXXIV's pre-game and halftime shows will include Madonna , Tina Turner , Travis Tritt , Phil Collins , Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias, and Toni Braxton, according to the National Football League. The NFL's championship game--which is expected to draw a U.S. television audience of 130 million--will take place Jan 30 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
Madonna will debut her latest single, a cover of Don McLean's ''American Pie,'' during a pre-game show saluting ''Great American Music of the 20th Century.'' The pre-game show--to be hosted by the Smothers Brothers--will also feature performances by Tina Turner and Travis Tritt.
According to the NFL, the pre-game show will highlight some of the unique American musical styles, including gospel, big band, classical, country and rock. It will feature a cast and crew of 1,250, including the Georgia Tech Marching Band and the Georgia Mass Choir.
The NFL is billing the Walt Disney Attractions-produced, millennium-themed halftime show as a ''10-minute spectacle, including larger-than-life puppets, an original, orchestral score and advanced pyrotechnics.'' Phil Collins , Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias, and Toni Braxton will join more than 125 drummers and percussionists and a full symphony orchestra for the production.
Country artist Faith Hill , who has sold more than 13 million records in the United States alone, will sing the National Anthem.
In the United States, the Super Bowl will be broadcast live by the ABC television network. Atlanta's convention and visitors bureau estimates that the football game's 100,000 visitors will generate an economic impact of $250 million.
