Drummer's injury sidelines My Chemical Romance
My Chemical Romance missed two planned concert appearances over the Labor Day holiday weekend due to the hospitalization of drummer Bob Bryar.
According to a press release, Bryar was admitted to a hospital late Thursday night (8/31) "because of complications resulting from injuries sustained last month while the band was shooting a video in Los Angeles." He was expected to remain hospitalized through the weekend.
The affected shows, at which My Chemical Romance was to appear with Taking Back Sunday and Circa Survive, were set for Saturday (5/2) in Allentown, PA, and Sunday (5/3) in Syracuse, NY. Despite My Chemical Romance's cancellations, the other bands played as scheduled, though fans were allowed to obtain a refund before the show, the press release said.
"One of the major disappointments of this, other than seeing Bob in pain, is missing Taking Back Sunday and Circa Survive," My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way said in a prepared statement.
Said band manager Brian Schecter: "We intend to make this up as soon as we possibly can in a completely fun and creative way for the fans to not be out in the cold. The band and I feel that they should stick by their band mate and brother's side in this time and not go play a show with a different drummer. Please bear with us as we first sort out Bob's health and secondly the re-scheduling of these shows."
Last month, My Chemical Romance didn't perform as scheduled at the San Diego Street Scene festival due to the video-shoot incident. Exactly what caused the injuries to Bryar--and possibly other members of the band--was never disclosed.
At press time, My Chemical Romance was still scheduled to perform Wednesday night (9/6) in Philadelphia.
My Chemical Romance is scheduled to release a new album, dubbed "The Black Parade," on Oct. 24.
