Primus readies best-of CD, DVD and tour
Bassist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry Lalonde and drummer Tim Alexandar--a.k.a. Primus --will hit the road later this fall to support a forthcoming best-of album and live DVD.
Titled "They Can't All Be Zingers," the compilation CD is set for release Oct. 17. The set will house 16 tracks that span the band's career from 1990 to 2003, including "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver," "My Name is Mud" and the Grammy-nominated "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver," as well as a previously unreleased, extended version of "Shake Hands with Beef," and other fan favorites and rarities.
The same day "They Can't All Be Zingers" hits the shelves, Primus will also offer up "Blame It on the Fish," a DVD that documents the band's 2003 reunion tour. In addition to live-performance footage, the disc will also feature interview segments, candid behind-the-scenes shots and "intense visual imagery," according to a press release. Extras include a "30-minute futuristic documentary about the band set in the year 2065 and interviews with the then-102-year-old bandleader Les Claypool."
Claypool and company will kick off a live run behind the two new releases Nov. 1 in Austin, and the trek is scheduled to touch down in about two-dozen cities by the time it wraps up Dec. 9 in the Phoenix area. The itinerary is included below.
In October of 2003, Primus ended a three-year hiatus with the release of a career-retrospective DVD and new EP, collectively titled "Animals Should Not Try to Act Like People." The five new songs on the companion EP are the first that Claypool and LaLonde recorded with Alexander since 1995's "Tales from the Punchbowl."
