Justin Timberlake eyes January tour launch

Though specific dates haven't been confirmed, Justin Timberlake is set to begin a US arena tour in January to support his new album, "FutureSex/LoveSounds," the pop star said during a teleconference Monday (9/11).

"We're going to begin in January in North America. I don't want to say too much about it, but it's going to be an amazing show. Me and my manager are just getting together who we're going to take out with us on tour, so we're not really sure yet. I don't want to throw [anything] out there because if it doesn't happen then, you know, we're all going to have to retract our statements," Timberlake said.

"With the creative ideas that I've come up with, I think it's going to be an amazing show, definitely. The trick for me is to find a way to bring the vibe that we've created, myself and my band, with the club show to an arena. That's the trick. So that's definitely, you know, what I'm going after. Whether we can pull it off or not obviously remains to be seen."

Timberlake's sophomore album, "FutureSex/LoveSounds," hit stores today (9/21). He co-produced and co-wrote the album; additional producers include JAWBreakers, Timbaland and Rick Rubin.

Released in April, "SexyBack" is the first single from "FutureSex/LoveSounds," and its topped singles charts worldwide. Timberlake said he coined the term "SexyBack."

"It was the first line that I came up with on the song. I originally I wasn't even planning on calling the song 'SexyBack.' ... I definitely didn't think it would become the most worn out [phrase] of 2006. It just sounded like a nice opening to the song."

Timberlake's first solo album, "Justified," was largely produced by The Neptunes, though Timbaland produced the "Justified" single "Cry Me a River." Timberlake explained Timbaland, or "Tim" as he called him, gave him much more freedom on the new album than The Neptunes did on "Justified."

"Well, they definitely have different styles of working. I worked with Timbaland ... for about a week on the last one, and I think we wanted to see what would happen if we really took our time in working together, and I feel that I've found a definite co-producer, co-collaborator. You know, you can ask him and I feel the same way," Timberlake said.

"It's just a collaboration. There's really no rules to it. Pharrell, on the other hand, he's a genius as well, but he comes in with a whole look and an idea, and so that's why I think they differ. Timbaland just lets you write the music. One's not better than the other, they're just definitely extremely different."
