Jack's Mannequin leads 'Tour for the Cure'

Something Corporate singer/songwriter/keyboardist Andrew McMahon is using his side project, Jack's Mannequin , to headline a fall tour benefiting cancer research.

The 19-city "Tour for the Cure," which launched Sept. 6 in Tucson, AZ, will pick up again Wednesday (9/13) in Milwaukee, with the net proceeds from the tour's ticket sales going to McMahon's own non-profit Dear Jack Foundation, which directly funds research organizations.

Also on the bill for the benefit shows are fellow emo artists Copeland, Daphne Loves Derby and The Hush Sound.

McMahon, whose main outfit, Something Corporate, last released "North" in 2003, has a personal stake in medical research, having been diagnosed in 2005 with Acute Lymphatic Leukemia. McMahon received chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant from his sister and is currently in remission from the disease.

"Having fought my own battle with Leukemia, I feel an intense personal obligation to use whatever resources at my disposal to raise both money and awareness for the countless young people who are being diagnosed with similar blood diseases," McMahon said in a press release. "I hope to focus attention on the demographic of cancer patients falling between the ages of 15 and 22."

Jack's Mannequin's debut album, "Everything in Transit," was released in August of last year.
