Supernova taps The Panic Channel to open tour
Supernova--the group that drummer Tommy Lee, guitarist Gilby Clarke and bassist Jason Newsted will round out with a vocalist to be revealed tomorrow (9/13) on the CBS-TV talent competition "Rock Star: Supernova"--will be joined on their inaugural tour by The Panic Channel .
The Panic Channel's lineup includes ex-Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro--who cohosts "Rock Star"--along with fellow Jane's alumni Stephen Perkins and Chris Chaney, as well as former Skycycle frontman Steve Isaacs. The group's debut album, "One," hit stores last month.
Meanwhile, organizers have revealed that the previously announced Supernova tour will feature "some of the viewers' favorite contestants from 'Rockstar: Supernova,'" who will be backed by the TV show's house band. Specific performers haven't been named.
Of 15 vocalists who were in the running to front Supernova, only four remain: Dilana, Lukas Rossi, Magni and Toby Rand.
The winning singer will lead Supernova on a 29-city tour of the North American arena and theater circuit that opens in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve.
In addition to fronting Supernova on tour, the winning vocalist will also record a new album with the group. The Butch Walker-produced set is due in stores Nov. 21.
"Rock Star: Supernova" marks the second season of the "Rock Star" series. During the first season, J.D. Fortune was selected as the new lead singer for INXS. He recorded a new album with the band, and toured with the group behind the set.
