'Rock Star' names singer, but Supernova in flux
Canadian vocalist Lukas Rossi was named the winner of this year's edition of the CBS-TV reality series "Rock Star," but, due to a legal challenge, the band he's fronting will likely need to find a name other than Supernova.
A California judge granted a preliminary injunction Wednesday (9/13) preventing the "Rock Star" band from using the Supernova moniker, which a Costa Mesa, CA-based band has been using for more than 15 years. That group--which has a song titled "Chewbacca" on the "Clerks" soundtrack--has released three albums and continues to tour.
In last night's "Rock Star" finale, Rossi beat out finalists Dilana, Magni and Toby Rand to earn the lead-singer slot in a new group that also includes drummer Tommy Lee (Motley Crue), bassist Jason Newsted (ex-Metallica) and guitarist Gilby Clarke (ex-Guns N' Roses).
Rossi will lead his new band on a 29-city tour of the North American arena and theater circuit that opens in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve. The winning vocalist will also record a new album with the group. The Butch Walker-produced set is due in stores Nov. 21.
"Rock Star: Supernova" marked the second season of the "Rock Star" series. During the first season, Canadian J.D. Fortune was selected as the new lead singer for INXS. He recorded a new album with the band, and toured with the group behind the set.
