Martina McBride spreads more Christmas 'Joy'
Martina McBride , who earlier this summer announced plans to mount the fourth incarnation of her "Joy of Christmas" tour, has added more dates to the run.
New to the country singer's schedule is a late-November performance in her adopted hometown of Nashville, as well as several new December stops in the Midwest. As previously reported, the trek gets underway Nov. 24 in the Chicago area, and wraps up on the East Coast just before Christmas. The itinerary is included below.
McBride's 2006 "Joy of Christmas" production is described in a press release as a two-hour multimedia event that features elaborate sets, special effects and a crew of actors/singers who back McBride's vocals.
The set list for "The Joy of Christmas" shows will comprise 18 seasonal standards, many of which McBride recorded for her 1999 holiday album, "White Christmas."
"One minute you're in a quaint village underneath a Christmas tree; the next minute you're in Bethlehem crossing the desert, and the next, you have a World War II, Bob Hope/Bing Crosby vibe," Bud Schaetzle, the tour's executive producer, said in a statement. "The centerpiece, of course, is McBride and her music."
"Christmas is such a wonderful time, and I wanted to create a memorable holiday experience for the entire family," McBride said in a statement. "By developing a show that incorporates elements of theater, video, special effects and audience interaction, we'll be able to take the audience through every aspect of the Christmas season in a magical, inspiring way."
McBride has spent much of this year on the road in support of her most recent studio album, "Timeless," which surfaced last October. The disc sold about 185,000 copies during its first week in stores, enough to earn it a No. 1 debut on Billboard's Country Albums chart, and a No. 3 debut on The Billboard 200 chart.
The album features McBride's take on country hits made famous by artists such as Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn, among others.
Last month, McBride picked up a nomination in the Female Vocalist of the Year category for this year's CMA Awards. The winner will be named during the awards ceremony, which is scheduled to take place Nov. 6 in Nashville and air live on ABC-TV.
