Beach Boys Wilson, Jardine to reunite for 'Pet Sounds' performances
Former Beach Boys bandmates Brian Wilson and Alan Jardine will reunite on stage for the first time in decades when Jardine joins Wilson for four performances of "Pet Sounds" in November.
The four shows with Jardine, part of Wilson's ongoing celebration of the 40th anniversary of the release of The Beach Boys ' "Pet Sounds" album, widely considered the band's masterpiece, will take place in the Northeast, starting with a Nov. 17 performance in Boston.
Two previously scheduled shows, Nov. 1 in Los Angeles, and a Nov. 12 set in London, apparently will not feature Jardine's participation. Tickets for the Boston and Keswick, PA, concerts are currently on sale, while tickets for the New York appearance will go public Sept. 29. More information on ticket availability can be found at Wilson's official website.
Wilson and Jardine formed The Beach Boys--along with Wilson's late brothers Carl and Dennis, and cousin Mike Love--in 1961 while growing up in Hawthorne, CA. The band, which has gone through a huge number of lineup changes over the years, went on to become one of the biggest-selling rock/pop acts of all time.
Wilson, who has battled mental illness for much of his life, re-emerged to critical acclaim in 2004 with the release of a newly recorded version of the group's "lost" album, "Smile," a project originally halted by Wilson in 1967, when he was famously stymied by the difficulty of the ambitious recording process.
News of the impending Wilson/Jardine reunion comes a week after a California judge dismissed portions of a lawsuit brought against Jardine by former Beach Boy Mike Love, who sought to claim sole ownership of the band's name. Love has toured frequently over the years with his own version of The Beach Boys, while Jardine has toured in the past with acts that included the moniker in their title, such as "Beach Boys Family & Friends."
