The Judds Reunite For Tour In February And March

The mother-and-daughter team of Naomi and Wynonna Judd , after reuniting for a long-planned New Year's Eve show in Phoenix, will embark on a two-month, 20-city tour in February. The Judds performed their last concert eight years ago, shortly after Naomi announced that she was retiring because she had contracted chronic acute hepatitis.

The reunion tour, titled ''Wynonna & Naomi: The Judds Power to Change Tour Presented By Kmart,'' kicks off on Feb. 4 in Denver, and tickets go on sale Dec. 11 in most markets. Jo Dee Messina will support on all dates.

According to a press release, the reunion will be a short-term event because both women are involved with separate projects. Though there are no current plans for a new Judds album, four new songs by the duo will be issued as a limited-edition bonus disk on Wynonna's forthcoming album, ''New Day Dawning,'' due Feb. 2.

Announcing the tour, Naomi said, ''When we started I was a single mom, raising two kids... and now Wynonna is a single mom with two kids. We've both grown and blossomed so much in our individual lives, and we want to reflect that in our show.''

Naomi was once told that she had three years to live, but doctors now say that she is free of the virus. Her exit from the duo came at a time when The Judds were a huge force in country music, having sold more than 20 million albums and collected six Grammy's in eight years. Their 1991 ''Farewell Tour'' was one of the top-grossing North American tours that year.

Wynonna has since gone on with a solo career that, while successful, hasn't approached the sales figures reached by the Judds. Naomi has been working as a motivational speaker, radio show host, actress and author. She will appear in the CBS movie ''A Holiday Romance'' on Dec. 8.

The Judds and Kmart entered a two-year marketing agreement in January. Under the relationship, The Judds appear in Big Kmart commercials and make appearances at the company's stores. Besides sponsoring the New Year's Eve reunion show and the ''Power to Change'' tour, Kmart underwrites Naomi Judd 's weekly radio show ''Heart to Heart.''

In connection with the tour, Kmart is implementing the ``Power to Change'' recognition program, which aims to honor '''everyday' women across America for their anything-but-every-day transformations.'' Women will be asked to submit their personal stories to Ladies' Home Journal, and winning entries will be recognized with a limited-edition, custom-designed pin. Ten women will be awarded a $5,000 shopping spree at Kmart and all-expenses-paid travel to The Judds' last performance.
