Gregg Allman & Friends hit the road again

Gregg Allman , who spent his summer on tour with The Allman Brothers Band, will set back out next month for a new round of shows billed as Gregg Allman & Friends.

Allman's packed itinerary begins with a two-week run on the East Coast that kicks off in mid-October. He'll then take a few weeks off before launching the outing's next leg, which runs from mid-November through mid-January. Details are included below.

Backing Allman during the run will be Mike C. Barnes (guitar), Jay Collins (sax), Jerry Jemmott (bass), Neil Larson (keyboard), Floyd Miles (percussion) and Steve Potts (drums).

Allman has tapped Daniella Cotton to hold down the opening slot during the tour's first leg; Honeytribe will take over for the second leg.

Last weekend, Allman was inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Atlanta. R.E.M.'s Mike Mills, Peter Buck and original drummer Bill Berry--all of whom were on hand for their group's own induction--joined Allman on stage for a rendition of "Midnight Rider," according to Allman's publicist.

"I'm proud to call myself a Georgian," Allman said in a statement. "And to earn a spot again in the Hall along with those other guys like Otis Redding, James Brown, Ray Charles and Blind Willie McTell--that's cool."

In 2004, The Allman Brothers Band celebrated its 35th anniversary, and marked the occasion with the release of "Stand Back: Anthology," a two-disc retrospective of the group's career.
