Michael Bolton tour channels Sinatra
Bolton's run, which is booked into theaters, launches Oct. 4 in Florida and is currently scheduled to wrap up with an early November, two-night stand in Atlantic City. Stops so far are confirmed in 15 cities. Details are included below.
Released in May, "Bolton Swings Sinatra" features Bolton's takes on Sinatra classics including "That's Life," "You Go to My Head," "Fly Me to the Moon," "For Once in My Life" and "My Funny Valentine."
"For years, I've kept a list of dream projects," Bolton said in a statement. "At the top of that list was an album of songs made famous by Frank Sinatra."
Bolton--who supervised the arrangements and orchestrations "down to the last note," according to a press release--was backed by a big band that included 17 horns and 35 string players. Assisting him with the disc was co-producer Alex Christensen and engineer/mixer Al Schmitt, the latter of whom had worked with Sinatra.
"Bolton Swings Sinatra" also includes a duet featuring Bolton and his fiancée, "Desperate Housewives" actress Nicolette Sheridan.
"Nicolette always sang around me until she thought I was listening--then she'd get self-conscious," Bolton said. "But I always told her she had wonderful pitch and feel. I played her 'The Second Time Around' and suggested she sing it with me, and she just lit up. The song just captured what we've been feeling--that love really is better further down the road, like the song says, with both feet on the ground."
