U2 throws the book at fans in New York

Legendary rock quartet U2 will make an in-store appearance at a New York City bookstore tomorrow (9/26), where they'll sign copies of "U2 by U2," a new book that gives fans an inside look at the group.

Set to take place at Barnes & Noble's Union Square store (33 E. 17th St. between Broadway and Park Ave So.), the signing begins at 1 p.m., according to publisher Harper Collins. The store will hand out a limited number of wristbands beginning at 9 a.m., and only customers with wristbands and a US edition of "U2 by U2"--available at the event--will be allowed into the book-signing line. More information is available by calling the store at 212-253-0810.

"U2 by U2" is a history of the band as told by U2--Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr.--and long-time manager Paul McGuiness, who teamed with author Neil McCormick for the project.

U2 frontman Bono, guitarist The Edge, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. founded the group in the mid-'70s while attending Mount Temple School in Dublin, Ireland, and have since gone on to sell more than 130 million albums, according to Harper Collins.

As previously reported, U2 and Green Day are teaming up for a performance at the New Orleans Superdome that takes place prior to tonight's ESPN Monday Night Football game between the Atlanta Falcons and the New Orleans Saints. The event marks the reopening of the venue, which was severely damaged during, and in the wake of, Hurricane Katrina. The performance will air live on ESPN during the Monday Night Football pre-game show.
