Jet grounded by illness, cancels shows
A case of acute laryngitis has sidelined Jet frontman Nic Cester and forced the Australian-based band to pull the plug on its Friday (9/28) and Saturday concerts (9/29).
The canceled shows, which were scheduled to take place tonight in Philadelphia and tomorrow night in Toronto, will be rescheduled "sometime in November," according to the group's label, Atlantic Records.
"In Australia, we say, 'I am absolutely gutted,' when the gravity of the situation is overwhelming," the band said in a statement issued Thursday night (9/27). "After all the work we've done on [our forthcoming album] 'Shine On' and on making this tour something special, all of us are very disappointed with the news of Nic's laryngitis. Canceling shows is not something we take lightly at all.
"We promise to make these shows up as soon as Nic is recovered and we're back on the East Coast," the group added. "Once again, our sincerest apologies to all of our fans. When we return, it will of course be with a vengeance."
Despite the canceled Toronto concert, Cester's bandmates--brother Chris Cester, Mark Wilson, Cameron Muncey and Stevie Hesketh--are still scheduled to travel to that city for a previously announced in-store appearance at Best Buy, according to Atlantic.
Cester and company plan to carry through with a previously booked "Tonight Show" appearance on Oct. 3--the same day that "Shine On" lands in stores--as well as subsequent concerts in Southern California and and Las Vegas. Details are included below.
"Shine On" is the follow-up to Jet's platinum-certified 2003 debut, "Get Born." The new disc features the cut "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is," which is streaming at the band's website.
