Christina Aguilera's tour plans shaping up
The first North American leg of Christina Aguilera 's "Back to Basics" tour is coming together, although no official word has yet come down as to the full extent of the trek, which looks to kick off early next year.
New dates have been popping up on the singer's official website in recent days, beginning with a Feb. 20 concert in Houston. The current itinerary shows US appearances in major metropolitan areas through next May, with all them set to take place in arena-sized venues.
Earlier this summer Aguilera had been pitching the idea of tour of small jazz and blues clubs to the press, but this outing appears to be geared toward larger audiences, at least as currently constructed.
"At a certain point, we are fitting in the more intimate blues/jazz club tour," she told MTV.com in September, "which I'm really excited about. It's going to be an amazing, amazing show that I can't wait to put on, but dates are to be determined for that whole shebang."
An official announcement with Aguilera's full tour routing for the first part of 2007 is expected soon. The singer is currently gearing up for a month-long European trek, which kicks off Nov. 17 in Sheffield, UK. Her full European itinerary is available on her website.
Aguilera is backing her third solo album, "Back to Basics," which hit stores in August and entered The Billboard 200 chart at No. 1. Her label is hyping the set as a "modern take on vintage jazz, soul and blues from the 1920s, '30s and '40s."
The disc was produced by Linda Perry, who also turned the knobs on the singer's 2002 release, "Stripped."
