Album Review: Cold War Kids, "Robbers & Cowards" (Downtown)
It's not news to anyone keeping up with contemporary music that, for better or worse, independently run music blogs are wielding power in the music industry, entering a void filled in the past by radio and the traditional media. Terms such as "blog rock" have sprung up out of this phenomenon, and certain recent bands are associated with this blog-driven hype.
One such band tied to blogger buzz is Cold War Kids . They are also one of the bands that prove that not all of this blog hype/praise is unwarranted. This, their first full-length LP, compiles re-recorded tracks from the band's earlier EPs, and adds a few new songs to round out the set.
Standout tracks continue to be cuts from the band's EPs "Hang Me Up To Dry," "We Used To Vacation" and "Hospital Beds." While not an essential release for those who own the existing EPs, this album is a great starting point for those curious about the band. Not convinced? Just go read your favorite music blog.
