Mannheim Steamroller rolls out holiday plans
For the 22nd year in a row, New Age composer Chip Davis will lead Mannheim Steamroller on its annual holiday outing.
The run kicks off at the end of November, and is currently scheduled to touch down at arenas in a dozen cities--most of which are in the Midwest. The Dec. 26 finale is set in Davis' hometown of Omaha, NE. Details are shown below.
Traditionally, Davis' holiday outing finds arenas where he and his band perform decked out in a holiday theme, complete with a 3,000-square-foot Christmas Village that features a working electrical train, gingerbread houses, and live toy soldiers and elves.
The first Mannheim Steamroller holiday album, "Mannheim Steamroller Christmas," was released in 1984, and "A Fresh Aire Christmas," "Christmas in the Aire," "Christmas Extraordinaire," "Christmas Live" and "The Christmas Angel" and "Christmas Celebration" followed.
In addition to his band's series of Christmas albums, Davis began doling out Halloween-themed collections in 2003. The third installment in that series, titled "Halloween 2," surfaced last month. The three-disc set includes one audio CD containing "new spooky songs," another that houses sound effects and remixes, and a companion DVD that contains "a debut dance created especially for Mannheim Steamroller, set to the original Chip Davis song, 'Creatures of the Night,'" according to a press release.
A complete "Halloween 2" tracklisting and audio samples of the collection's 13 musical numbers are posted at Mannheim Steamroller's website.
