Dinosaur Jr. tours, readies new material
Veteran alt-rock trio Dinosaur Jr. , which plans to dish out a new DVD and studio set next year, has penciled in a handful of late-2006 US shows.
The Massachusetts-based group's brief schedule comprises three late-November dates in New England, followed by a Dec. 1-2 two-night stand in New York City. Details are shown below.
Following the US performances, Dino Jr. crosses the pond for about a half-dozen European shows, information about which is available at the band's website.
Last year, Dinosaur Jr.'s original lineup--frontman/guitarist J. Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph--reunited for their first live shows since the '80s. A subsequent tour spawned the forthcoming "Dinosaur Jr.: Live from the Middle East," a full-length concert DVD. Scheduled for release May 7, 2007, the disc features performance material filmed largely at Boston-area club the Middle East, as well as New York City's Irving Plaza and other shows along the band's December 2005 reunion tour. Extras include one-on-one interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.
Also on the group's radar for spring of 2007 is its first new studio album in 18 years, which the trio spent the last month working on at Mascis' home studio in Amherst, MA. The group does not yet have a label, so no release date has been set, according to a press release.
Mascis, Barlow and Murph, who founded Dinosaur Jr. in 1983, parted ways in 1989, though Mascis continued to record under the Dinosaur Jr. name for several more years.
