Guster takes on fall, winter shows
Alt-rockers Guster have just launched their latest leg of touring behind their award-winning album, "Ganging Up on the Sun."
The group's next stop is a Halloween performance in Omaha, NE, and 10 subsequent shows round out the band's 2006 itinerary, which is included below. The quartet will then get its 2007 touring year started with a stint aboard "Ships and Dip," a mid-January, five-day cruise headed up by Barenaked Ladies. More information about the excursion is available at the cruise's website.
Guster has also unveiled two February concerts that, according to a posting at the group's page, "will kick off an exciting three weeks of rock concerts in places we've been avoiding, like St. Louis, Cincinnati and Providence."
On Sunday (10/29), Guster kicked off its latest round of shows with a performance at the Las Vegas-area Vegoose Festival. The band was originally due to begin the new stretch of dates with a Friday (10/27) concert in Salt Lake City, UT, but announced on Thursday (10/26) that it was scrapping the show because singer/guitarist Adam Gardner was "still recovering from a miserable three-week bout with pneumonia," according to blog entry posted at its MySpace site.
In the same entry, the group encouraged concertgoers headed to yesterday's Vegoose Festival to come see the recuperating Gardner on stage.
"Those of you coming to the Vegoose Festival ... will get a chance to see Adam sweat through three shirts in the course of a one hour set!" the group wrote. "What could be sexier than an emaciated, feverish man with a guitar having the schvitz of his life in the desert?"
Released in June, "Ganging Up on the Sun" follows Guster's 2003 set, "Keep It Together." Last month, the set scored the major-label Album of the Year award at the annual Boston Music Awards ceremony.
Three tracks from "Ganging Up on the Sun"--"Satellite," "One Man Wrecking Machine" and "Ruby Falls"--are streaming at Guster's MySpace site, and the "One Man Wrecking Machine" music video is streaming at the band's official website.
