The Rev heatin' up the highway
Psychobilly hardchargers The Reverend Horton Heat are continuing their aggressive tour schedule with a slew of dates through January.
November began with and Louisville, KY, and Cleveland, OH, gigs and from there the trio crosses the US with more than 40 shows set so far from Maine to California.
Southern hell-raisers Th' Legendary Shack*Shakers will open through late November then again from mid-January onward, and Denver-based "hard country" band The Railbenders will fill the opening slot from late December through Jan. 10. Junior Brown will bring his guit-steel guitar genius to at least 10 dates from mid- to late-January.
The Rev got into the holiday spirit this time last year, releasing the band's first-ever Christmas album, "We Three Kings," which was included in USA Today's list of the season's "most notable offerings."
Since then, Interscope Records released a 15-song best-of album in January titled "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Reverend Horton Heat." The band's last non-holiday, non-best-of studio album was 2004's "Revival"--its first for Yep Roc Records.
The Rev hopes to release a new album next year, according to Yep Roc. A label rep said that in the meantime, Yep Roc has plans for a mid-2007 release, "Taking Cover From the Heat," an album of other artists (including Jello Biafra, Hank Williams III and Th' Legendary Shack*Shakers) doing covers of classic Reverend Horton Heat songs.
